The YF-S201C Transparent Water Flow Sensor is a compact Hall-effect turbine flow sensor designed to detect and measure water flow in pipes. Its transparent body allows you to visually observe the internal rotor as water passes through the sensor, making it especially useful for Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi, IoT, automation, and electronics development projects.

The sensor generates a digital pulse signal according to the rotation speed of its internal magnetic turbine. A microcontroller can count these pulses to estimate water flow rate and total water consumption. The sensor uses a standard G1/2-inch pipe connection, making it suitable for many small water-flow monitoring applications.

It is a practical choice for Bangladeshi students, engineering students, electronics hobbyists, IoT developers, and DIY makers working on smart water meters, automatic irrigation, water dispensers, liquid-flow monitoring, and Arduino-based projects.

Features:

  • Transparent body for easy visual inspection of the internal turbine
  • Hall-effect magnetic sensing technology
  • Digital pulse/frequency output
  • Approximate flow range of 1–30 L/min for commonly sold versions
  • Standard G1/2-inch threaded water connection
  • Simple 3-wire interface
  • Suitable for Arduino, ESP32, Raspberry Pi and other microcontroller projects
  • Compact and lightweight construction
  • Useful for water-flow monitoring and automation
  • Suitable for DIY electronics, IoT and engineering projects
  • Easy to integrate with pulse-counting software

The sensor works by allowing water to rotate an internal turbine. A magnet attached to the turbine passes the Hall-effect sensor, producing electrical pulses. By counting the pulses, a controller can calculate flow rate and estimate the volume of water passing through the sensor.

How YF-S201C Works

Water enters the sensor through the inlet and rotates the internal turbine. A magnet in the turbine interacts with the Hall-effect sensor to generate electrical pulses.

The basic measurement process is:

Water Flow → Turbine Rotation → Magnetic Detection → Pulse Output → Microcontroller → Flow Calculation

The faster the water flows, the faster the turbine rotates and the higher the pulse frequency becomes. A microcontroller such as an Arduino or ESP32 can measure the pulse frequency and convert it into an estimated flow rate.
